Sliding Door Repair in Coronado, CA
Coronado is the hardest environment for door hardware in the county. Surrounded by water on nearly every side, with salt fog off both the ocean and the bay, it corrodes hardware at rates that genuinely surprise people who move here.
Salt from every direction
Most coastal properties get salt exposure from one direction. Coronado gets it from the ocean to the west and the bay to the east, with very little of the island more than a few blocks from water.
The practical consequence is that standard hardware simply does not last. Steel-housed roller assemblies can be visibly corroded within a few years, and we regularly remove rollers that have effectively fused solid inside their housings.
What we fit here
Sealed stainless roller assemblies as an absolute minimum, marine-grade fixings, and stainless track caps where the original aluminium has been attacked.
We are also more insistent about weep hole clearance in Coronado than anywhere else. Standing salt water in a bottom track is what turns a hardware problem into a frame problem, and a frame problem on the island is expensive.
Historic homes and the Village
Coronado Village has genuinely historic housing, and work on those properties needs to respect what is there. We are not going to recommend replacing a period door because the hardware failed.
The approach is to keep the original frame and joinery and renew the running gear and seals — which is both the right conservation answer and the cheaper one.

Coronado — common questions
Why does hardware corrode so fast in Coronado?
Salt exposure from both the ocean and the bay, with very little of the island far from water. Standard steel-housed roller assemblies can show serious corrosion within a few years, which is why we fit sealed stainless as standard here.
How often should Coronado sliding doors be serviced?
Annually, without exception. It is the most aggressive environment for door hardware in the county, and the yearly visit consistently costs less than what it prevents.
Can you work on historic homes in Coronado Village?
Yes, and our default is to preserve the original frame and joinery while renewing the running gear and seals. Replacing a period door because its rollers failed is neither necessary nor sensible.
