Sliding Door Repair in San Diego
A sliding door that fights you is almost never one broken thing. It is a chain: a worn roller drops the panel, the panel scrapes the track, the track deforms, and the frame starts taking load it was never meant to carry. We diagnose the whole chain, not the symptom you noticed.
What we actually check on arrival
Every visit starts the same way: the panel comes out. There is no way to assess a roller assembly with the door hanging in place, and any company that quotes you without lifting the panel is guessing.
With the door out we check four things in order. The roller housings — are the wheels turning, are the bearings dry, has the housing collapsed. The bottom track — is it grooved, pitted, bent, or has the vinyl insert perished. The frame — measure the diagonals, because a frame out of square by more than an eighth of an inch will destroy new rollers within a year. And the hardware — the lock, keeper and handle, which fail from the same corrosion that kills everything else.
The repairs this covers
Roller replacement is the majority of what we do, and it is the fix for dragging, screeching, and doors that need a shoulder. Track work follows close behind: capping a grooved track with a stainless insert is a permanent fix and costs far less than replacing the sill.
Beyond that: re-squaring frames that have racked from foundation settling, replacing mortise locks that no longer catch, re-glazing cracked or fogged panels, rebuilding screen doors, and freeing pocket doors that have jumped their overhead track.
Repair or replace — how we decide
We repair whenever the frame is sound. A frame that is square, dry and structurally intact is worth keeping, because the frame is the expensive part. Rollers, tracks, locks and even glass are all consumables by comparison.
Replacement makes sense in three situations: the frame is rotted or corroded through, the opening has racked so far out of square that no adjustment brings it back, or the door is an obsolete system where hardware is genuinely no longer manufactured. We will tell you which of those applies and show you the evidence.
What it costs
Most residential repairs fall between $185 and $650. A two-panel patio door needing rollers sits near the bottom of that. Add track replacement, a new mortise lock, or a tempered glass panel and it climbs.
The estimate is free and it happens on site, because a phone quote for this work is fiction. You get a fixed written price before anything is dismantled, and that price does not move.

How long does a sliding door repair take?
Most single-door roller and track jobs take 60 to 120 minutes on site. Multi-panel doors, pocket systems and anything needing frame work run longer. Glass is the exception: we measure on the first visit and return to fit the tempered unit, usually within a week.
My door came completely off the track. Is it ruined?
Almost never. A door that jumps the track has usually lost a roller, and the panel itself is undamaged. The risk is what happens after — an unsupported panel of glass leaning in an opening is heavy and dangerous. Leave it where it is and call us rather than trying to reseat it.
Do you work on doors you did not install?
Yes, and that is the majority of our work. We service Milgard, Andersen, Pella, Arcadia, Fleetwood, Western Window Systems and the unbranded aluminium sliders in most San Diego homes built before 1990.
Is it worth repairing a 30-year-old door?
Often, yes. Aluminium frames from the 1970s and 80s outlast their hardware by decades. If the frame is straight and the glass is intact, new rollers and a track cap give you another 10 to 15 years for a fraction of replacement cost. The exception is single-pane glass, where replacement may pay for itself in cooling costs.
